Held IAS officer granted bail

A senior IAS officer who was picked up by a team of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police Station on July 22 for alleged 'misappropriation' of Rs 99.5 lakh which was originally sanctioned for the purpose of constructing a tribal boys' hostel at Kabo Leikai, Imphal East in 2016 was released by the Special Judge (PC (Act) on a bail of Rs one lakh and a surety of the same amount from a State Government employee today on health ground.
An extract copy of the order said that the sum of Rs 99 lakh and 50 thousand was sanctioned for the purpose of constructing a tribal boys' hostel at Kabo Leikai, Dewlahland under Special Development Fund in 2010 .
The accused who was the then Director of Tribal Affairs, Hills and Scheduled Caste Development Department submitted a proposal to the then Deputy Chief Minister for construction of the said hostel at a Society located at Poumai Colony without specific approval of the Ministry as well as concurrence of the Finance Department.
The then Executive Engineer of TAH and SC Development Department issued a work order to the secretary of the Society and the tribal boys' hostel was constructed on the 3rd floor of the existing hostel of the said Society at an estimated cost of Rs 1,10,00,000, said the extract copy of the order.
Thereafter a sum of Rs 88,30,800 was given to the secretary of the said Society as first and final bill for the construction of the hostel.
The senior IAS officer was granted bail on the conditions that he shall co-operate with the investigation, shall make himself available before the investigating authority as and when called for, the accused should influence any prosecution witnesses, will appear before the Court as and when directed and the accused shall not leave the State without prior permission of the Court.
