Imphal, July 24 2019:
Many individuals who were given allotment of the quarters built by PWD for the purpose of providing accommodation to Government employees from far flung and remote areas of the State in Imphal, have been found renting out the said quarters.
It may be mentioned that a verification drive of the quarters under PWD at Tribal Colony, Sanjenthong, Babupara, Langol Housing Complex Type IV below at Lamphel, Majorkhul, DMC, 2nd MR, National Games Village Type V, VI and VII at Lamphel is being carried out and the drive will continue till August 5 .
However, during the drive, it came to light that many of the allottees had rented out the quarters to other individuals and collecting monthly rents.
According to an official source from PWD Building Division II, many other allottees were also found sharing the quarters with other people but still collecting rents.
The source continued that it will be a difficult task to streamline the quarters under PWD as well as other Departments and stressed on the necessity for the State Government to adopt a policy to streamline the allotment of quarters.
The current verification might be able to streamline 70 to 80 percent of the quarters present in Imphal area, the source added.
The source further conveyed that many such quarters are also located at the numerous District HQs and the District Administrations concerned are responsible for the allotment and maintenance of the said quarters.
Pointing out that it has also been found that many allottees had even claimed ownership of the quarters, the source alleged that no action seems to have been taken up so far against such unethical practices.
