Multipurpose Hall inaugurated by Sports Minister Letpao at Khuman Lampak; appeals sports bodies to unite

YAS Minister Letpao Haokip today inaugurated a Multipurpose Indoor Hall at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The construction work of the hall was started in 2015 by Manipur Development Society (MDS) at the total cost of Rs Three Crores which was funded under the 13th Finance Commission.
The inaugural function was also attended by Bobby Waikhom (IAS) Secretary YAS, Armstrong Pame (IAS) Director YAS, top officials of the department and MDS in the presence of hundreds of young players.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the Minister condemned the divisive politics played by the sports bodies and appealed not to indulge in divisive politics and work collectively for the promotion of sporting talent of the players.
He has also expressed concerned on the declining performances by the State players in the national and international events which is a cause of worry if the trend continues.
He also stressed on the need to identify the sporting talent of the players at young age to rightly uphold the tag 'Sports Powerhouse'.
He also alleged that the main reason for decline performances at the national and international level is due to the divisive politics played by the sports associations and bodies of almost all the sports disciplines in the State.
He earnestly appealed all the sports bodies and associations to let go of their egos and unite for the good future of sports in Manipur.
The Minister also added that he has been raising this concern not as a Sports Minister, but as a common citizen of Manipur as the love for sports and the pride one gets when State players excelled in their field crossed all ranks and status.
He appealed that all the stakeholders should work together and unite again to up the level of performance and to regain the level of excellence of our sporting talents.
Regarding the multipurpose hall inaugurated today, Minister Letpao urged the players to extract maximum benefit from the facility while maintaining it in a professional way as a responsible and committed players.
He also expressed hope that such new infrastructures will help in producing more legends like Mary Kom and Sanjita Chanu.
He also assured that iron grills will put up to windows of girls' changing room soon.
YAS Secretary Bobby Waikhom and Director Armstrong, in their speeches, said that the inauguration is a positive development in the sports history of the State while adding that the hall will highly benefit the players.
