Imphal Range crowned champions at CRPF Inter Range Football tourney

Imphal, July 05 2019: Imphal Range CRPF thump Agartala Range by 3-0 goals today to win the title of the NE Zone CRPF Inter Range Football Tournament hosted by GC CRPF, Imphal under the supervision of Ministry of Home Affairs at GC CRPF Imphal Langjing ground.

The final match of the tournament was a very one sided affair although the hosts started slowly and Thangoulal of Imphal Range was the highlight of the day as he fired in two goals in their 3-0 victory against the Agartala side.

Thanggoulal put Imphal Range in the frontfoot with his strike in the 16th minute while C Haokip doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute of the match.

Thanggoulal then rounded off the scoring in the 42nd minute of the match before he walked away as the best player of the tournament.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Imphal Range dumped out Kohima Range with a 9-3 win while Agartala Range edged out Dibrugarh Range by 4-1 goals.

Ranjit K (5'), TP Lenthang (52') and CK Marndi (71') scored for Kohima Range in the first semi-final against Imphal Range whose rampaging C Haokip scored 5 goals alone (29', 34', 44', 76', 80') and B Daimary made a double (20', 63') .

Len (24') and E Hemjit also added one goal apiece to help Imphal Range ease into the final with a huge 9-3 win.

Meanwhile in the second semi-final match, MK Missang of Dibrugarh Range conceded an own goal to give Agartala Range the narrow lead in the 2nd minute before KWMDWN Boro scored twice (19', 21') and made it 3-0 .

J Jowala of Agartala Range pulled back a goal, which happened to be the team's only goal, in the 40th minute to make the scoreline read 1-3 till the break while P Manna of Agartala fired in the dicisive goal in the 50th minute of the match.

Bikram Lairenjam of Imphal Range was also adjudged best goalkeeper of the tournament which featured 8 teams of CRPF Ranges from across North East States.
