Assam Rifles foils smuggling of Areca nuts

Imphal, January 29 2024: Assam Rifles foiled cross border smuggling of contraband in Kamjong district by intercepting two trucks illegally carrying Areca nuts on Monday.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of Areca nuts in Kangpat Centre area, a search operation was launched, in which an AR column intercepted two trucks carrying Areca nuts without valid documents, meant for unlawful distribution in the black market .

A total of 240 bags, weighing around 19.2 tonnes of Areca nuts valued around Rs 2.304 crore were seized and subsequently handed over to forest beat officer, Kamjong district, informed a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) .
