Imphal, September 28 2011:
The 60-hour general strike called by Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) demanding upgradation of the sub-division into a full-fledged revenue district crippled normal life in Jiribam, reports our Correspondent.
Shops, business establishments, Government offices and educational institutions remained shut and vehicles were off the roads.
Effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi and local MLA Thoudam Devendra were burnt down during the stir.
Although, security personnel of 22 Assam Rifles, police commandos and 5 MR patrolled the streets, strike supporters burnt tyres at several locations.
However, no untoward incident has been reported so far.
