WAD hails Delhi rape verdict

Imphal, September 16 2013: Women Action for Development (WAD) has hailed the death penalty awarded to 4 the rape convicts of 2012 Delhi rape case and said that awarding death penalty for such heinous crimes is highly befitting and Friday, the 13thSeptember, 2013 will be considered as the Day of Justice.

In a statement issued by its Secretary Sobita Mangsatabam, WAD also expressed satisfaction over the verdict and hoped that it would convey that a strong deterrent message to perpetrators of such crimes.

Furthermore, WAD appealed to the state government to initiate such course of actions in handling issues of crimes against women to check the escalating trend.
