Can't accept it to be suicide: Joykisan

Imphal, August 04 2019: Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan has categorically stated that his conscience can never accept that Ningthoujam Babysana committed suicide.

Speaking to media persons at his Thangmeiband residence this afternoon, Joykisan lamented that some very unfortunate incidents took place today during the Mangani Leihun ceremony of the deceased student.

The way the Mangani Leihun ceremony was performed evoked a feeling that the people's movement for justice has subsided disappointingly.

Although people participated en masse at the meeting held a few days back to take a collective decision in connection with the mysterious death of Babysana, no such mass participation could be seen in the 'Mangani Leihun' ceremony.

Even as people assembled together to take out a procession, police announced that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the death of Babysana.

However, when the group of people asked if there was any evidence of the arrest, one police officer turned to the protesters and allegedly said, "you should not teach us law", Joykisan conveyed.

There is no harm in announcing to the public if any prime accused has been arrested for it would be an achievement for both the Government and the police.

Manipur Police are quite powerful and they have suppressed many intense public agitation but people's grievances and hurt sentiment cannot be addressed by arresting protesters.

He then urged police to declare that the culprits in Babysana's mysterious death case are arrested on the 'Shradha' day of the late minor student and show that how deeply concerned is the Government with the death of a student.

As shown by the way the Government has been dealing with the case of Babysana, a powerful force is involved in the case and it is this powerful force which has been keeping the Government silent, Joykisan said.

Pointing out that the incumbent Government successfully suppressed the JCILPS' sustained movement for protection of indigenous people and quelled the people's movement against the death of Pravish Chanam by claiming that the case has been handed over to CBI, Joykisan expressed deep apprehension that the ongoing movement for justice to N Babysana may die out after the Shradha ceremony.

When the case of Pravish Chanam was raised in the State Assembly, it turned out that the case had been disposed rather than handing it over to the CBI, he continued.

He then appealed to all the people to carry on the collective struggle until justice is delivered to Babysana.

Highlighting that 11 persons have been tested positive for Japanese Encephalitis, Joykisan expressed keen desire for the State Government to take up precautionary and control measures extensively.

There is no point for the existence of a Government if it must act only when it is pointed to in the State Assembly, he added.
