Imphal, April 30 2024:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh and several others have greeted workers on May Day.
In his message to the workers, the CM said the Labour Day is observed to pay respect to all workers and labourers.
"It was on this day that the working class came together and stood up for their rights.
They raised their voices for paid leaves, good wages, and proper breaks.
The day also symbolises the victory of the working class in their struggle to get an 8-hour working day," he said.
He urged the public to recognize and appreciate all workers for their hard work and contributions to the development of the society.
"Let us honour and celebrate their hard work and dedication in every field," said the CM.
Rural Development Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh also greeted the workers and paid homage to "all those pioneers who have fought for rights and justice" for labourers.
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) extended greetings, and said it reaffirms its commitment to work towards achieving the rights of the working class and their overall development.
It recalled that in May 1886, workers in Chicago, United States, had launched a massive movement which earned them their rights and an 8-hour work day.
