Imphal, July 20 2023:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has declared that it will take up strict action against schools under Department of Education (S) who have charged fees from students for the months of May and June.
Speaking to media persons in this connection during a press conference held at MSF office located at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, Rojit Tekcham, general secretary MSF shared that due to the prolonged turmoil that has gripped the State, Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar had declared summer vacation from May 4 to July 4 (in phases) .
Stating some schools have been charging fees for the two months, the general secretary appealed against such a practice.
He added that the public of Manipur have been facing immeasurable hardships due to the conflict and under such circumstances it is unfair for the schools to charge school fees for the months of May and June when there were no classes and summer vacations were in effect.
Further he opined that it would be unwise for the State Government to remain mum on the issue.
Urging the State Government and the relevant department to declare its stand on the matter to the public, he also suggested that these schools should be strictly monitored.
Rojit Tekcham also shared MSF helpline numbers 9863853826 and 9366303924 and urged people to inform the students body if they come across any schools charging fees for May and June.
Lastly, he assured that MSF will maintain a strict vigil on all schools under the Department of Education (S) in this connection.
