Imphal, July 20 2023:
The Naga Legislature Forum (NLF) Manipur, a group of 10 Naga MLAs, has taken strong exception over the video clip which shows two 'innocent' Kuki women being paraden naked in public.
Addressing the media at his quarter at Lamphel today, NLF convenor Awangbow Newmai said that every individual involved in the ghastly crime must be given the maximum punishment as per the law of the land.
Not a single one of them must be spared, he demanded.
It is an unspeakable crime against women and all right thinking people must condemn it, Awangbow continued and added that no people would want their siblings, parents and children to be subjected to such savagery.
He, on behalf of all Naga MLAs, extended his sincerest solidarity to the victim women and their family members.
Awangbow also extended condolences to the bereaved family members of those killed in the said incident.
Appealing to one and all to extend support at their level best in restoring normalcy in Manipur, Awangbow said that every person must take responsibility to douse the flame and shun violence.
Violence will only beget more violence, the Naga MLA said and added that solution has to be brought through dialogue and negotiations.
Saying that the Government, the Naga MLAs and Naga civil society organisations have been working to break the cycle of violence and bring normalcy in Manipur, Awangbow maintained that violence, unfortunately, continues to take place, leading to loss of lives and properties.
