Senapati, July 20 2023:
The Naga Peoples' Organization (NPO), Senapati, while taking strong exception to the innumerable suffering and harassments faced by the people of Senapati district from both the Kuki and Meitei communities, has appealed to both the communities to desist from harassing innocent Naga public of Senapati district.
This came after some volunteers of both communities reportedly kept harassing the Senapati Nagas while passing along the highway (Imphal-Dimapur highway) .
In a press communique issued by the information & publicity wing of the Naga Peoples' Organization (NPO), it stated that the Nagas of Senapati have been maintaining neutrality thus far in the hope that peace and normalcy will soon return to the State of Manipur.
"Any unwanted provocation from any community is uncalled for.
The patience and silence of the Nagas should not be taken for weakness.
Movement of the people of Senapati to various locations and destinations for daily chores, may it be for educational, medical and other specified oriented purposes should not be disturbed," it mentioned.
To work for peace and tranquillity in the strife torn State of Manipur is the responsibility of every right thinking citizen, it stated.
The NPO expects human touch while dealing with the Nagas of Senapati, it said.
It is unfortunate that many innocent and precious lives have been lost, thousands displaced, properties destroyed and houses charred to ashes.
Nevertheless, striving to restore peace and normalcy in the State is paramount at this crucial time, it said.
The NPO, while appealing to all sections of the society to work towards rebuilding the otherwise fractionalized State, also urged both the communities to desist from provoking the Nagas of Senapati.
