Imphal, January 29 2026:
The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) 2025-26 has strongly condemned the actions allegedly perpetrated by members of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) at the recruitment exam for non-teaching staff at Manipur University today.
Citing irregularities in the recruitment process, some KSA members reportedly locked the room while the recruitment exam was in progress and further vandalized University property, said MUSU in a press release.
Refuting claims of fraudulence levelled by KSA, MUSU clarified that in 2014 an Executive Council (EC) meeting discussed Statute 19(2) of the Manipur University regulations and the same has been in effect for more than 10 years after receiving UGC approval.
Recruitment of all statutory posts during the last ten years has been in compliance with the same Statute 19(2) which was amended in 2014 .
Emphasizing the duration the regulation has been in effect, MUSU questioned KSA's motive behind stirring up commotion only now.
In an earlier statement, MUSU had also called for a new EC to convene and discuss possible amendments in Statute 19(2) if any irregularities/fraudulence is discovered in the aforementioned regulation.
MUSU also recalled that it had issued a point-wise response to a 9-point statement made by KSA on October 10, 2025 .
Stating that Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller etc have been appointed during the last ten years, MUSU questioned if all these recruitments should be reviewed and demanded a clarification from KSA to explain why it has alleged irregularities only in the recruitment of the Registrar post.
According to MUSU, the University Grants Commission (UGC) sent communications to 45 Central Universities across the country to implement the Cadre Recruitment Rule (CRR) 2022 in the recruitment of non-teaching staff.
As such, an EC meeting held on October 6, 2022 officially adopted the CRR 2022, which is being followed in the ongoing recruitment process of non-teaching staff at MU .
As the recruitment of some posts not covered under CRR 2022 became necessary, MU authority is currently awaiting the Visitor (President of India) approval through Samarth portal.
However, these posts are not included in the ongoing recruitment, said MUSU .
MUSU has urged KSA to avoid causing chaos and ruining the academic atmosphere at the University and further called for continuation of the recruitment process so the shortage of non-teaching staff at MU can be plugged.
