Husband of deceased woman sent to judicial custody

Imphal, April 22 2025: The husband of the woman who was found hanging inside her house at Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Maning Leikai yesterday has been sent to judicial custody till May 6 .

The husband, identified as RK Chaoba (73), was arrested yesterday night on the charge of abetment to suicide of his wife, RK ongbi Lakhibai.

RK ongbi Lakhibai was found hanging inside her house after an alleged physical fight in the morning yesterday.

The husband, RK Chaoba, was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today by Imphal Police along with a prayer of remanding him to judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case.

In the Court of the CJM, Assistant Public Prosecutor submitted that the police received the report of the woman found hanging inside her house at noon yesterday.

When police reached the house, the husband was not present.

On examination of some locals, it was found out that the couple quarrelled frequently, and there was a physical fight between the two in the morning yesterday.

After the police arrested the husband, he admitted to torturing the deceased mentally and physically very frequently, and in the morning yesterday, said the APP.

The Prosecutor further submitted that the police have recovered one kitchen knife, two Khudei and other items from the site of the incident.

The accused is a habitual drunkard and he tortured his late wife mentally and physically very frequently, said the Prosecutor, requesting the Court to remand the accused to judicial custody.

The Court, after hearing the submissions of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused to judicial custody till May 6 .
