New Delhi, May 21 2010: Delhi University for the first time appointed a Deputy Dean of Students' Welfare to help the students from the seven northeastern states during the admission process for various undergraduate courses for the session 2010-11. Santacruz Naorem, who was from Manipur teaching physics in Hindu College , had been entrusted with the task of counseling and sorting out the problems of the students.

Earlier, students from North Eastern States used to get help from volunteers of different student's organizations who belonged to the NE states but there was no nodal authority which they could contact for assistance.

Santacruz Naorem said, "Now, if any of the students from North East States face any problem in the admission process, they can directly come to me".

He added: "We will have many student volunteers from NE states.

They will be out in the field during the admission process.

We have already written to the Resident Commissioners of different NE states so that they can pass on relevant information to their Education Secretaries".

The Common pre-admission forms will be available at 16 designated centres at Rs.50 from May 28 to June 11, 2010 and the last date for receipt of application forms in the colleges is June 11. They are not available online or cannot be ordered or submitted by post.

All colleges except St.

Stephen's and Jesus & Mary College accept the common pre-admission form.

For admission through ECA and sports quota, candidates have to apply on separate forms of individual colleges.

Sports trials will be conducted centrally by the university and not individual colleges this time.

There will be 75% weightage for certificates and rest 25% for performance in the trial.

ECA trials will be conducted by individual colleges.

Seperate forms will also be required to apply for CATE for admission in BA (Honours) English.

Sale and receipt of form is from May 20 to May 31 and entrance test is on June 9. The forms will be available in 17 colleges where admission is sought.

Candidates have to contact individual colleges for applying to professional courses such as journalism, BMMMC, biomedical sciences, home science.

For hostel facilities, the colleges concerned have to be contacted.

Admission in a college does not ensure admission in the hostel.

Allocation of rooms is based on merit and is allowed only for outstation candidates.

SC/ST candidates require two self-attested photocopies of their caste certificate, a self-attested photocopy and certificate of class X and XII (provisional), self attested photocopy and original of Class XII mark sheet and two self attested photographs.

For OBC candidates, OBC certificate is required.

Delhi University will increase the number of seats for rollout of 27% OBC quota in its 65 regular colleges.

Adding 5,000 seats, DU will now offer 54,000 seats � 27,000 general, 14,000 OBC, 12,150 SC/ST and the remaining in categories including disabled, sports etc � to aspirants from across the country.

The first cut-offs will be declared on June 22, followed by a three-day admission process.

The second cut-off will be declared on June 26, the third on July 1 and the fourth notification (if any) only July 6 .
