Imphal, June 12 2025:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has alleged that many areas in Imphal remain flooded, with murky waters emitting a foul odour and posing health risks.
COCOMI, in a statement, stated that flooding persists in areas such as Nongmeibung Pung Makhong, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Yongla Leirak, and nearby localities, along with agricultural fields in Keikhu, Heingang, and Wangkhei Loukon at Bashikhong.
The Committee claimed that the relevant departments have made no effort to drain the water or dry the inundated areas south of Ayangpalli, resulting in stagnant water turning black and emitting a foul odor, posing health risks.
It urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action to drain the water from the flooded areas.
The Committee also emphasized the need for concerned departments to take measures to make flood-affected areas habitable again, particularly in places where water has receded but sanitation and safety remain a concern, by spraying bleaching powder and other necessary measures.
Stating that COCOMI has begun organizing free medical camps in flood-affected areas where water has receded, it appealed to local clubs interested in hosting medical camps to contact them at 9863738741/9366813406/9612318445 .
The Committee announced that its flood emergency helpline centers at Lamlong and Kongba Bazar have been closed, but flood relief efforts will continue from the COCOMI head office.
COCOMI, meanwhile, stated that its flood relief efforts have resumed after a three-day halt due to the Arambai Tenggol's 10-day bandh.
