Imphal, August 11 2025:
The Government and Association of Healthcare Providers-India, Manipur Chapter have been urged to bring about an understanding between them and allow kidney patients to undergo dialysis under the PMJAY scheme.
This appeal came after the Association of Healthcare Providers-India (AHPI), Manipur Chapter decided to suspend treatment under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) from August 16 due to unpaid dues/reimbursement by the Government.
The proposed suspension of treatment under the PMJAY scheme at hospitals will affect all, especially kidney patients who need life-saving dialysis, said the All Manipur Kidney Transplant Patients' Welfare Association in a statement.
Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana are people belonging to the below poverty line (BPL), and they depend on the Government scheme for treatment of various ailments.
Similarly, the PMJAY card holder kidney patients depend on the scheme for undergoing dialysis.
In case the AHPI suspends treatment under PMJAY, the kidney patients belonging to the BPL families will not be able to undergo the life-saving dialysis, said the All Manipur Kidney Transplant Patients' Welfare Association.
The association said over 800 patients-around 450 at Shija Hospital, 300 at Babina Hospital, 30 at Triveni and several at other hospitals are undergoing dialysis under the PMJAY .
Suspension of treatment under the scheme would severely affect them and even threaten their lives, said the association.
It urged the Government to clear the unpaid due/reimbursement and also appealed to the AHPI Manipur Chapter to reconsider its decision.
The association appealed to the Government and the AHPI Manipur Chapter to bring about an understanding between them and allow kidney patients to undergo dialysis under the PMJAY .
Notably, on August 8, kidney/dialysis patients had made a similar request to the AHPI and the Government.
They had stated that a kidney patient requiring dialysis usually undergoes the life-saving procedure (dialysis) 3-4 times a week, and it costs around Rs 4000 to Rs 5000 per session.
They had said that the PMJAY scheme is the only means available for many patients who need dialysis to survive.
