Imphal, July 11 2025:
The Governor-in-Council, in its sitting held today, has approved the appointment of Chingakham Naoba Singh to the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector (Civil Police) under the Home Department, Government of Manipur.
This appointment has been made on humanitarian and exceptional grounds in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by his elder brother, late Constable (CT) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), who laid down his life during "Operation Sindoor", said a statement issued by Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N Ashok Kumar.
Late CT Deepak Chingakham, aged 25 years, son of Chingakham Bonbihari of Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai, Imphal East, serving with the 7th Battalion of the BSF, sustained fatal injuries during unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in the RS Pura Sector of Jammu & Kashmir on May 10, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries on the next day.
The Governor-in-Council, in its sitting on 15th May, 2025, had also approved an enhanced ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin under the "Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) Ex-Gratia Scheme" .
Following the martyrdom, the martyr's father Chingakham Bonbihari, submitted a representation to the Governor, requesting suitable employment for his younger son, Chingakham Naoba Singh, under the State Government by opting to forego a BSF offered opportunity in favour of employment within Manipur to stay close to the family during this period of hardship.
The Governor-in-Council, after due consideration, found merit in the request, based on the exceptional nature of the case involving martyrdom in National service and the morale and humanitarian responsibility of the State to support families of National heroes.
