Panel moots separate policy for displaced women

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports has suggested the Ministry of Women and Child Development to establish a dedicated special committee with a targeted and separate program/policy/scheme for internally displaced women and children.
This initiative should ensure direct monitoring and transparent delivery of assistance to prevent misuse and guarantee the well- being of affected individuals, the committee said in their 365th Report on Demands for Grants (2025-26) of the Ministry of Women and Child Development which was presented in the Rajya Sabha on March 28, 2025 .
Special provisions must be made for the education of displaced children, healthcare for lactating mothers, and employment alternatives for affected women to rebuild their lives, it said.
Additional steps should be taken for provision of nutritious food, breakfast, adequate accommodation facility to women and children in relief camps in Manipur, it suggested.
The Ministry should allocate additional funds for the same and facilitate women and children staying in relief camps in Manipur till the situation becomes normal.
The committee also suggested that the National Commission for Women (NCW) stay apprised of issues relating to law and order in Manipur and proactively ensure that the concerns of women are registered and acted upon by the relevant authorities.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports presented the 366th Report on Demands for Grants (2025-26) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Rajya Sabha today.
The report suggested the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to continue supporting NYKS, NSS, and local youth clubs in promoting peace and social harmony in Manipur, and in bringing Internally Displaced Persons into relief camps.
Places like Haryana, Manipur, Punjab, etc, which are famous for particular sports, need to be invested in to further develop the sports ecosystem in these States, it said.
It suggested expediting construction of the permanent campus of National Sports University in Manipur and appoint a full-time Vice-Chancellor to facilitate faculty recruitment.
The number of seats available in National Sports University programmes be increased and the university be accompanied by a sports school to provide educational and residential facilities to sportspersons below the age of 18 years, the report added.
