Parents glee as Patkai students showcase talent

Imphal, November 27 2010: Having proved their worth academically, students of Patkai Christian Academy showcased their extra-curricular talents with an array of performances that not only kept the mostly-parent crowd in a hilarious mood but also reminded the adults about the challenging situation the state is passing through and the fact that no one is above the almighty.

Talents of the students were evident today during presentations of entertainment programmes marking the 10th anniversary of Patkai Christian Academy (PCA), near Finch Corner in Ukhrul district.

graced by the presence of several eminent personalities the anniversary celebration was held with Commandant 23 Assam Rifles Col Charan Dev Singh as the chief guest.

Representing DIG 'B' Range, 10 Sector Assam Rifles Brig Harish Thukral, who could not attend the celebration due to a prior engagement, Col Charan in his address to the gathering assured continuous cooperation and assistance of the Assam Rifles.

Noting dedicated service rendered by the teachers and efficiency of the Academy administrators in moulding future generation of the nation, the chief guest also handed over gift to the PCA principal Yangahan Phunshok on behalf of the DIG.

He also recounted historical relevance regarding location of the Academy by stating that the nearby Shangshak area was a battle zone when World War-I broke out with Indian soldiers in the erstwhile british Army keeping adversary forces at bay for about a week before arrival of additional reinforcement secured the area from enemy occupation.

In an emotional speech at the occasion, Principal Yangahan regretted that his round the clock physical presence at the Academy would cease from middle week of December as he would be retiring.

He, nevertheless assured to contribute his mite in further development and progress of the Academy.

even as cultural items with both traditional and modern taste were staged by student groups of different classes the one that captivated the audience was unarguably performances themed 'TV programme' wherein students of Class VI and VII re-enacted television personalities and entertainment programmes.

while a group presented a scene from the bollywood blockbuster 'Sholay' wherein the villain leader fumed at the failure of his trusted accomplices in executing a task another picked out a particular episode of a popular news channel that reported on the volatile situation besieging Manipur.

Another striking development a team of The Sangai Express daily came across during a random interaction with some of the parents relates to 'inquisitive' visit to feel the Academy atmosphere.

During a friendly chat an individual from Imphal revealed that he accompanied a friend with the aim to get his son admitted at the Academy for he was certain that the location would be suited for development of his ward's cerebral capacity in a peaceful atmosphere like PCA where the effect of bandhs and blockades, that had become a common feature in the capital city, would be unheard of.

Representing the parents/guardians one Ringyuichon Vashum thanked the Academy authorities and teachers on their care and goodwill for physical and mental growth of the children.

The event commenced with the opening song by PCA choir and culminated with the choir group's closing song and prayer by Rev Ningdhar Ruivah.
