Dimapur/Ukhrul, January 27 2026:
The NSCN (IM) has expressed serious concern over the factional fights between NSCN-K Yung Aung faction and NSCN-K Angmai faction, stating such conflicts undermine Naga political movement.
In a statement, the NSCN (IM) said all "Naga political groups" must stop factional fights and do away with vendetta.
"The inherent policy of India and Myanmar is to create as many as factions in the name of Naga political movement and make them vulnerable to be used to prevent them from mounting a serious challenge to the Government forces," it said.
India and Myanmar will go to any extent to prevent the Nagas from presenting a united front, and erode their unity and collective strength.
The Nagas must learn from history and wake up, it said.
Factionalism in essence serves as a "perverse incentive" to the "Naga political groups".
Factional fighting diverts the focus of the Naga public away from the main issue.
It undermines the Naga movement, said the NSCN (IM) .
"Let us listen to the voice of the people as NSCN groups irrespective of affiliation represent the truth of Naga political movement," it said.
The Naga political movement is a people's movement, therefore, the political groups must listen to the voice of the people, it said.
It said the Naga Students Organisation's call to NSCN-K (YA) and NSCN-K(AM) to cease all factional fighting represents an 'urgent voice' of the Naga people.
Notably, the Naga Students Organisation (NSO), Myanmar had come out strongly against continued factional clashes between NSCN-K Yung Aung faction and NSCN-K Angmai faction, stating it has severely inflicted great suffering to the Nagas living in Myanmar.
The frequent violent clashes and bloodshed amongst Naga families is grievous and painful, it said, urging both the groups to pursue peaceful dialogue.
The acts of violence between the two groups are not only tragic but a direct betrayal of the collective sacrifices and political aspirations of the Naga people, said the NSO Myanmar.
At a time when the Naga people are facing serious political, social, and territorial threats from all directions, internal armed conflict is self-destructive.
"If we fail to stand united today, there will be no Naga political future tomorrow," said the NSO Myanmar.
"The erosion of our rights, land, and identity will not happen suddenly.
Such a situation will emerge only when we are divided, distracted, and destroying ourselves," it added.
Internal violence weakens the Naga cause and strengthens those who wish to see the Naga people fragmented and defeated.
No political principle, factional interest, or leadership ego can justify the killing of "our own people".
History will not forgive those who choose fratricide over responsibility, it said.
The NSO appealed to both NSCN-K(YA) and NSCN-K(AM) to cease all violent retaliatory actions and constitute peace committees within their respective groups.
Differences must be sorted across the table, not through the barrels of guns, it said.
"Give dialogue a genuine chance to resolve all issues in the larger defence of Naga political rights and principles." Both groups must come forward for dialogue for an honourable and sustainable movement, it added.
The organisation said it is "fully prepared and willing to coordinate, facilitate, and initiate the peace process, should both parties come forward with duly constituted peace members" .
"The NSO stands ready to play a constructive and responsible role in bringing both sides together in the interest of peace, unity, and the collective future of the Naga people," it said.
The organisation reiterated that the ongoing clashes and loss of lives have deeply hurt the sentiments of the Naga people.
The students, youth, and general public are watching with growing pain, anger, and disappointment.
Continued violence will only alienate the people and erode public trust, it said.
Further, it urged both groups to exercise restraint and immediately stop issuing provocative and hostile statements, and inflammatory rhetoric.
"The future of the Naga Nation depends on wisdom, courage, and restraint at this critical hour.
The Naga Students Organisation stands resolutely for peace with dignity, unity with purpose, and a shared political future for all Nagas, and calls upon all concerned to rise above factionalism for the survival and honour of the Naga Nation," it said.
