Prices of essential commodities soar

Following the August 18 landslide at Pesama, Nagaland which cut off the major trade route of the State, prices of essential items have soared.
Hundreds of goods truck are stranded along National Highway 2 due to the landslide.
Potatoes and chillies which were sold at Rs 18 and 145 per Kg respectively, have surged to Rs 30 and 160.Onions and garlic prices rose up to Rs 80 and Rs 160 per kg from Rs 50 and 95 per kg respectively.
Wholesale and retail dealers at Thangal bazar said onion and potato stocks are likely to go out in two days time.
Prices of imported fruits also saw a steep rise.
Cost of apple which were sold at Rs 120-160 per kg depending on the variety, are now sold between Rs 140-180 per kg.

Rates of fresh fish were already high from the recent flood.
It escalated further in the past few days as fish imports halted due to the landslide.
Prices of commonly consumed fishes like Rohu and Pengba soared from Rs 200 and Rs 140 per Kg to Rs 300-400 and 160 per kg respectively.
Not only are the prices soaring up, stocks of major food items like potato, onion and garlic have almost run out in retail stores.
Unless Imphal-Dimapur road is reconnected, prices of commodities are likely to remain high.
Cereals and locally produced vegetables, however retained its original price.
