Hunger strikers sent to judicial custody, 'homes'

Imphal, August 24 2015:
Of the nine DESAM volunteers pulled up by police yesterday for staging indefinite hunger strike, six have been sent to judicial custody of Central jail, Sajiwa while three have been sent to different Juvenile Observation Homes.
They were rushed to RIMS hospital for medical treatment after they were picked up from their Kei-shampat agitation venue at around 6.30 pm yesterday.
Police formally arrested them from the hospital and produced before different Courts today.
Later, these Courts ordered to send six youths to Central jail, Sajiwa and two juveniles including two girls to different Juvenile Observation Homes.
On the other hand, all the five juveniles, who have been staging indefinite hunger strike at the gate of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy, have also been sent to different Juvenile Observation Homes today.
They were pulled up by a team of Porompat police station late today evening.
After giving treatment at RIMS hospital, they were produced before the Principal Magistrate of Juvenile Justice Board, Imphal East under Section 309 (attempting to commit suicide) and 34 IPC (common intension) .
The Principal Magistrate ordered to send the three boys to Juvenile Observation Home, Takyelpat and two girls to Juvenile Observation Home, Langthabal as nobody came forward to furnish the guardian bond amount on their behalf.
Health condition of Lai-mayum Krishnakumar (45), who has been staging indefinite hunger strike near THAU ground, has deteriorated.
He began his stir at around 10 am on August 21 .
On the other hand, health condition of Konjengbam Nanda (55), who has been staging hunger strike at Moirang, has been checked by a medical team.
Nanda said that he would continue his stir.
Meanwhile, in solidarity to the popular movement for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) or similar mechanism in Manipur, a Class IX student of Bethel English School has also joined hunger strike at Nambol Keithel since yesterday.
The 11 year old agitator has been identified as Th Sandeep (14) s/o Th Sanjoy of Nambol Kongkham Awang Leikai.
L Bina (40) of Nambol Awang Leikai has also been fasting at Nambol Keithel for the same cause since 5 pm of August 22.However, Bina was taken to Nambol CHC this morning as her health condition deteriorated.
