Driver, handyman hurt

Imphal, September 22 2011:
The driver and the handyman of a crane sustained injuries when it fell into a gorge more then 200 metre deep near Awang Khul along National Highway 37 at around 4.30 pm today.
The injured driver has been identified as Ch Mani (58) of Bamon Kampu and the injured handyman as L Sanjoy of Singjamei.
Weighing 15 tonne, the crane belonging to the Transport Department was stationed at Kotlien for the last many weeks and it was being taken to Kambiron today following an instruction from the Government when the mishap occurred.
After being taken to Kambiron, the crane was supposed to be kept inside the campus of 134 CRPF Bn.
A police team led by OC John Lamkang of Noney Police evacuated the injured driver and the handyman to Noney where a doctor from Noney PHC administered first aid at Medicine House Clinic, Noney.
Later they were brought to Imphal for further treatment in an ambulance sent from the side of Transporters and Drivers' Council.
The condition of both the injured driver and handyman are reportedly stable.
