Imphal, May 14 2010: Two trucks with Manipur registration numbers ferrying cement and iron for Assam Rifles were pushed down into the gorge at Zakhama in Nagaland on the NH-39 today by miscreants suspected to be volunteers of the Naga Students Federation (NSF), a report reaching here in Imphal said.

The two trucks, one ferrying cement and bearing registration no.MN01-7149 and the other with iron bar and bearing registration no.MN01-5846, coming together Army convoy, were pushed down while the truckers were taking a break at a tea stall on the way at Zakhama on the highway by some miscreants in two-wheelers at around 1.30 pm, the report said.

Zakhama police when contacted said that the two ill-fated trucks were among 10 trucks ferrying goods for 22 Assam Rifles post at Maram in Senapati district heading the destination from Bokachand of Assam today.

The trucks were pushed down into the gorge at Zakhama under Khuzama police station at about 1.30 pm by the miscreants who overpowered truckers before pushing down the vehicles.

The truck with cement fell down into around 50 meter dip gorge while the other remained stuck in the woods on the roadside.

Mention may be made that the Naga Students Federation (NSF) is banning entry of vehicles with Manipur registration numbers in Nagaland since a vehicle of the students' body was barred from entering to Manipur at Mao gate by the security force deployed there to prevent Muivah from crossing into state territory.

Since then, hundreds of Imphal bound trucks are stranded at Khatkati in Assam at border with Nagaland.

How the trucks were coming with the Army Convoy and found parking at Zakhama could not be confirmed from the report.

Ahead of the announcement of the ban on Manipur vehicles, at least six Imphal bound trucks had also been torched by miscreants on the night of May 4 last.
