JNIMS treated 167 Dengue cases since July

Days after the Government announced that 1204 cases of Dengue were reported in the State this year (till October 9), Medical Superintendent of JNIMS Dr Kh Lokeshwar has informed that about 167 cases of the vector borne disease including children and expectant mothers were admitted to JNIMS alone since late July of which 11 of them are still undergoing treatment.
Earlier, State Malaria Officer Dr S Priyokumar had said that there were 1204 cases of Dengue this year (till October 9) with Imphal West registering the maximum cases at 828 .
Addressing the media at the Administrative Block of JNIMS today, Dr Loke-shwar continued that there has been a surge in Dengue cases in Manipur lately.
Saying that not all people with Dengue infections are admitted to hospitals, the senior doctor maintained that those who are undergoing treatment for the viral infections have complications, and low platelet count.
Dengue fever is caused by RNA virus and there is no vaccine to cure the disease, he said and added that people have to take extra precautions to prevent mosquito bites.
Dr Lokeshwar advised the people to always put mosquito nets while sleeping and make sure there is no stagnant water in the surrounding and indoors where the mosquitoes can lay eggs.
Saying that 26 people who were admitted to the hospital for Dengue fever had platelet transfusion, he said no one died of the viral infections as of yet at the hospital.
He also assured that they at JNIMS will do whatever they can to conduct platelet transfusion to those who need it.
