MSF inspects KGBV Mayang Imphal

A team of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) led by its general secretary Romeo Keisham and vice-president Khundrakpam Max today inspected the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) located at Heigumyangbi, Mayang Imphal.
The KGBV was inaugurated by the Education Minister, M Okendro on Feb 28, 2015 .
The residential school has an intake capacity of 100 students in class VI, VII and VIII.
Currently, six teachers utilized from different Government school are teaching 57 students.
According to the norms of the KGBV there should be four full time teachers, two part time teachers, two language teachers, one warden and three cooks.
Unfortunately, the school has lacked many amenities as the authorities concerned failed to provide all necessary teaching and learning materials through proper channel, Headmistress A Tamphaibema said.

Substitute teachers for teachers who are on maternity leave are not yet sent by the Education Department.
A request was made to the Zonal Education Officer, Wangoi but no step has been taken up till today, she added.
In one of the classroom rain water was seen seeping.
With limited number of staff and deteriorating infrastructure, teachers have been facing inconveniences, Tamphaibema said.
She said, teachers were not allowed to attend a closed door meeting which was reportedly called by the warden with ZEO, circle AI, supervisors with guardians held some days back.
Meanwhile, Warden of the Vidyalaya, I Luxmi commented that only one warden is posted for the entire school.
The kitchen and dining hall was in deteriorating and unhygienic condition which increases risk of contacting various illness.
It was also reported that students were made to clean the campus and the residential areas.
With the ever increasing crime against women, residents of the school may be exposed to serious threat as there is no proper fencing for the school, said Romeo.
The inspection was conducted under the campaign "Eikhoi ningthina lairik tamsi" .
Moreover, there is no security guard, chowkidar posted for the school and this increases the risks of students becoming victims of various atrocities.
Further, he urged the guardians to press the authorities concerned to provide and fulfil all the norms prescribed for KGBV.
He demanded that the concerned Education Department and ZEO Wangoi should clarify and produce white paper where the funds granted for KGBV, Mayang Imphal has been utilized.
The authority should take prompt steps to complete all construction works which are left incomplete.
MSF along with the public will launch series of protest if the authorities concerned fail to pay any heed to the demands.
