Imphal, April 03 2025:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has categorically stated that it will never accept any delimitation based on 2001 census data.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office here today, BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary K Saratkumar said that the party stands resolute on its decision not to accept any delimitation based on the 2001 census data.
He said that the party will always act in line with the people's pulse on the issue of delimitation.
Delimitation based on the controversial 2001 census data is unacceptable, he asserted.
Saratkumar maintained that no delimitation process should be initiated in Manipur until and unless all illegal immigrants are identified and the issue of demographic imbalance caused by incessant influx is addressed satisfactorily.
Based on news reports published in some National papers, it is being speculated that delimitation may be carried out across the country in 2026, he said.
The matter was discussed minutely at a joint meeting of the party's legislators and office bearers a few days back.
As decided at the meeting, a 13-member committee has been examining the issue, Saratkumar said.
He said that the committee has been working to raise the matter to the relevant authorities of the Central Government.
To a query, the BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary said that which census report; 2011 or 2021 will be accepted for carrying out delimitation will be further examined by the party.
"As of now, I would not like to say anything", he said.
