Although police have not been able to arrest any culprits inspite of lodging complaints on numerous occasions in connection with stealing of telephone cable wire, Lilong Local Council of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has managed to pull up person involved in stealing telephone cable wire and recovered some of the stolen wires.
Junior Telecom Officer (JTO), Thoubal has lauded the effort of AMADA in this connection.
Addressing a press conference in this regard at the head office of AMADA here this afternoon, JTO Thoubal K Modhuchandra said there has been many instances in the past of cutting and stealing of telepho ne cable wire under Thoubal Telecom by unidentified miscreants.
But police have always failed to act inspite lodging complaints in time, he lamented.
Modhuchandra recalled that on December 12, 2006, 10 pairs of 400 metre long telephone cable wire had been cut off and stolen from Kiyamgei Oinam Loukon by unidentified miscreants and on September 1, 1007, 20 pairs of 1.5 kilometre long wire had been stolen from Ahanbi Salam.
Besides, 700 metre long cable wire had been cut off and stolen from Lilong Turel Ahanbi Mayai on August 7 this year and another 20 pairs of 600 metre long on September 5 this year.
In connection with all these incidents, complaints have been lodged with the police stations concerned and FIR cases registered.
But the police have not solved even a single case, the Telecom officer said.
On account of frequent instances of stealing telephone cable wires by misreants, telephone subscribers have been facing lot of inconviences, the JTO said expressing concern.
However, efforts made by AMADA Lilong Council to recover the stolen telephone cable wire is really appreciable, the HTO said while informing that around 1 km long cable wire recovered by AMADA has been handed over to the Telecom office.
He hoped that other stolen wires would also be recovered in similar way by AMADA in the days to come.
The thief pulled up by Lilong Local Council of AMADA along with some stolen wire has been identified as Md Anish Phundrimayum of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
Besides Md Anish, two other persons, one who is an SP tablet abuser and the other both SP tablet abuser and peddler, have also been pulled up along with 62 pieces of SP tablets and 47 pieces of N-10 from their possession.
The two rounded up persons have been identified as Md Abdul Majid (22) of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai and Md Hamidur Heibokmayum (15) of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
During the course of interrogation, AMADA have also found out that the SP and the N-10 tablets were supplied top them by three persons identified as Md Salim (36) of Lilong Turel Ahanbi, Md Abocha (27) of Lilong Awang Leikai, Md Habi (26) of Lilong Mayai Leikai.
The president of Lilong Local Council AMADA Kh Liyakat Ali has asked all three of them to surrender and come to the office of the Council within November 4.
