Imphal, November 27 2014:
Repeated appeals to the State Government for improvement of Uchiwa High School yielded no positive outcome so far.
The school has been functioning without adequate manpower and infrastructure since some times back.
Uchiwa High School is one of the State Government-aided schools that has been repeatedly seeking the attention of the authority concerned over its manpower and infrastructure shortage.
The school has only two approved teachers while 19 teachers are unapproved.
Since the retirement of the former Headmaster H Sarojkumar in October, Maibam Thouranisabi has been taking over as the headmaster in-charge.
Speaking to mediapersons, Uchiwa High School Managing Committee secretary H Jitomjit Singh said the school has 908 students and had produced many successful students since the past few years.
Despite assurance by former Minister Jayantakumar, Works Minister Ratankumar and Education Minister Moirangthem Okendra to extend all possible assistance for the improvement of the schoool, nothing has been done so far, he said.
Stating that the nearby located Junior High School was upgraded to a high school recently, H Jitomjit questioned if there is a hidden agenda to close down Uchiwa High School.
H Jitomjit said, "While some schools in the State have well-improved infrastructure and other facilities, some are deprived of even basic necessities.
We, the School Managing Committee, parents, teachers and students would like to earnestly appeal to the State Government to convert the aided-school into a full-fledged Government school, undertake steps for the School development and provide better platform for the students to excel" .
