Imphal, November 27 2014:
Saikul AC MLA Yamthong Haokip fumed over keeping PHC Maphou Kuki under lock and key since past one year.
The PHC was found locked and its staff including doctors and nurses absent during a visit of the MLA to his Constituency yesterday.
The medical facility was inaugurated by the MLA last year.
According to Maphou Kuki village chief Haokhomang, the PHC functioned only for a few months after its inauguration.
No doctor, nurse and staff come to the PHC now and people of Maphou Kuki and neighbouring villages are facing extreme hardships at the time of medical emergency, he added.
The villagers have to rush to Imphal even for minor ailments, he added.
Expressing extreme resentment over the closure of the medical facility, Yamthong Haokip urged the authority concerned to put the doctors, nurses and staff of the PHC under suspension.
He questioned how they can draw salary without discharging any duty.
