Imphal, November 27 2014:
The Managing Committee of Uchiwa Aided High School today appealed to the Education Minister of the state to upgrade the school to a full fledged high school considering the immediate need of a high school in and around the Uchiwa Village.
Speaking to the press, the Secretary of the committee H Jitomjit expressed that as many as 708 students have been admitted to the school that is offering students from Class 1 to 10, which is being run and administered by only two government teachers along with an engagement of 16 private teachers.
It has been a difficulty to provide the salaries for these private teachers who have been trying their best considering the fact that the future of these students will be jeopardized.
He further stated that the school is the only one of its type in the area around Uchiwa taking into account the number of its students.
The secretary also observed that the school which is also catering to the educational needs of students from the various neighboring villages had been visited and inspected by the Education Minister, M Okendro earlier and also by the local MLA on several occasions who had given their assurances to raise up the school to a full-fledged high school.
He also claimed that the then Education Minister, L Jayenta at his time also had given an affirmation for the development of the school, he added.
Further H Jitomjit expressed that, there are no government high schools in the whole of Mayang Imphal constituency other than the Mayang Imphal Higher Secondary School.
The school which has been solely imparting the basic educational needs of the Uchiwa community and its neighbors must be upgraded immediately to allow provision for free education of these students who mostly came from poor families, he said.
