Chief Minister inspects finishing touches to market complexes

Imphal, October 22 2010: The State Government has decided on new names for the three markets of Khwairamband Bazar which are being prepared for inauguration by AICC president Sonia Gandhi in November first week.

During her visit to Manipur, Sonia Gandhi would be laying floral wreaths at the memorial pillar of BT Park.

Disclosing these informations while talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of an inspection visit to Khwairamband Bazar today morning, the Chief Minister informed that during her visit to Manipur in the first week of November, AICC president Sonia Gandhi would be inaugurating the three markets and some other projects being taken by the Government.

She would also lay floral wreath and pay homage at the Sahid Minar of BT Park, the Chief Minister added.

It may be mentioned here that it is rare for any Indian leader who come to visit Manipur to pay homage and offer floral tributes to the war heroes of Manipur at the memorial pillar located to the eastern side of Mapal Kangjeibung here.

Giving a detailed itinerary of the scheduled visit of Sonia Gandhi, who is also the Chairman of UPA, the Chief Minister said that upon her arrival at Tulihal Airport, Sonia Gandhi would be flown to Churachandpur by helicopter to inaugurate the Khuga Multipurpose Project.

After inaugurating the Khuga Dam, she would be flown back to Kangla from where she would go to Shahid Minar to lay the floral wreath, the Chief Minister disclosed, adding that Sonia Gandhi would also inaugurate the newly constructed annexe building of Congress Bhavan and unveil a newly installed statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

After inauguration of the newly constructed three markets of Khwairamband Bazar, Sonia Gandhi would address a public meeting at Pologround, the Ibobi said.

At Pologround, she would also inaugurate the 80-bedded Muslim Girls' Hostel and Tribal Market complex which have been newly constructed at Hatta and Lambulane respectively by remote control.

In addition to this, she will lay the foundation stones for development of INA complex at Moirang as a tourist destination at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh under Tourism Ministry as well as the Campus of the proposed India Gandhi National Tribal University, the Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Works Minister K Ranjit, IFC Minister N Biren, PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken and other Departmental officials during the inspection.

The team also inspected the progress of the construction work on Muslim Girls Hostel at Hatta and Tribal Market complex at Lambulane.

Talking to mediapersons at the occasion, Works Minister K Ranjit informed that a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister yesterday has decided on new names of the three markets of Khwairamband Bazar.

Accordingly, Purana Bazar, New Market and Laxmi Bazar would be respectively named as Khwai Nupi Keithel, Nupi Keithel and Kha-Thangba Nupi Keithel.

DD awards : Two programmes produced by Doordarshan Kendra, Imphal, namely, The Journey and Farmers' Pride, have been nominated for Doordarshan Annual Awards, 2010 .

The Journey, which has got the best entry of the year under music category, is co-produced by Manibabu Likmabam and Th Brajabidhu while Farmers' Pride, which has been nominated for the best entry of the year under Agriculture category (Loubuk Maikei Panglasei) is co-produced by Manibabu Likmabam and Assurance Raikhan.

The ceremony will be held at Lucknow on November 25 .
