Ukhrul, August 22 2025:
In a rejoinder to the open press statement issued by the Kachin Wesean Students Association (KWSA) Baltimore, Maryland, USA, the Naga Students' Organisation of Myanmar has expressed belief in peaceful dialogue and mutual respect to resolve the differences between the two communities over forced recruitment of Naga civilians.
A statement issued by Naogang Ngansa, president of NSO Myanmar expressed gratitude to KWSA for their willingness to voice their concerns on issues affecting both the Kachin and Naga peoples and for recognising the injustices suffered by innocent Naga civilians at the hands of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces.
Such acknowledgement is an important step toward ensuring accountability and justice, NSO Myanmar added.
The statement emphasized that NSO has consistently "rejected and opposed every form of forced recruitment, whether carried out by the NSCN-K (YA), NSCN-K (AM) or the Myanmar military junta.
No revolutionary cause can justify the coercion of youths into armed service against their will" .
Subsequently, NSO reminded the KWSA to convey to the leadership of the KIO/KIA the necessity to refrain from further escalating tensions by engaging in unscrupulous activities against Naga civilians.
The rejoinder reasoned that these actions risk undermining the very bonds of solidarity their people have built over generations of shared struggle.
It also urged the KIO/KIA leadership to abandon policies that "mirror divisive strategies imported from outside powers, including those influenced by India" .
NSO issued a call to instead build a relationship based on trust, respect, and partnership as equals within the revolutionary fraternity as their common struggle demands unity, not suspicion and coercion.
Conveying its commitment to the mission of safeguarding the welfare of Naga students and communities, NSO further said it is their first and foremost responsibility to protect Nagas' safety, dignity, and future as contributing members of society.
It added that NSO is committed to justice, human rights, and solidarity with the Kachin people.
It reiterated that peaceful dialogue and principled cooperation are the viable paths to address their differences and further uphold the spirit of fraternity in their struggle for freedom and justice.
