Imphal, September 14 2011: To exert pressure on the State Government for upgrading Jiribam sub-division to a full-fledged revenue district, one Ksh Rajkumar of Vidyanagar, Jiribam has announced his decision of launching a fast unto death stir from tomorrow.

On the other hand, in all 850 trucks today left Imphal for Jiribam to lift essential commodities along with stringent security measures.

According to convenor of Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) M Maipaksana, as part of the movement being spearheaded by JDDC, Kh Rajkumar would begin his fast unto death stir in front of MSF Jiribam branch office from 10 am tomorrow.

In support of his stand, around 40 to 50 Meira Paibis would also join Rajkumar in the fast.

Maipaksana announced that alongside the fast unto death stir to be undertaken by Rajkumar until the demand for upgradation of Jiribam to a full-fledged revenue district is fulfilled, JDDC would impose economic blockade along Imphal-Jiribam road with effect from 7 pm of September 16 till September 23.If the Government fails to give a positive response even after all these agitations, indefinite total bandh would be imposed along the National Highway with effect from September 24 .

To ensure success of the agitations being lined up, a meeting of JDDC was convened at Jiribam today.

After a threadbare discussion, the meeting resolved to take up necessary measures in this regard, Maipaksana informed.

Refuting report in a newspaper stating that JDDC would hold another round of meeting with the Government on September 16, Maipaksana clarified that no invitation has been received from the side of the Government nor the Demand Committee has discussed anything in this regard so far.

Meanwhile, amid the economic blockade of SHDDC and counter blockade of UNC, in all 860 trucks left Imphal for Jiribam for lifting essential commodities along with security escorts today.

Among the 860 trucks, 771 are for lifting essential food items, while 68 are oil tankers and 21 LPG bullets.

The trucks left with Deputy Commandant of 2nd MR Shyamsundar as escort commander.

Additional SP Herojit, SDPO Lamphel Balram, DSP (Commandos) Krishnatombi and TDC president H Ranjit were also among those who escorted the trucks till Tupul.

It was conveyed that all the vehicles have crossed Nungba by 4 pm today.
