UCM reminds Govt on re-organisation process

Imphal, September 14 2011: United Committee Manipur (UCM) has reiterated its appeal to the State Government for complying with the resolutions adopted in the 2-day long Joint leaders meet in the process for district re-organisation.

In a reminder to an earlier memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister today, UCM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar pointed out that UCM has already submitted the public opinion for constitution of a High-Power District Re-organisation Committee consisting of not only the Government officials but also the representatives of civil societies with Revenue Minister as chairman.

But no response has been received from the side of the State Government till date and it is quite unfortunate that the Government of Manipur has neglected the voice of the people.

In the meantime, it has been learnt from the public notice of the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries that one should conduct the Commissioner (Revenue) or Under Secretary (revenue) for participating in the Ist public hearing to be conducted on September 15, the reminder noted, adding that UCM has nothing more to say but reaffirm with its stand.

UCM asserted that it is to strengthen the re-organisation process that the district boundaries should be appropriately surveyed and demarcated with the objective of keeping the geographical contiguity, with a specific aim to achieve administrative conveniences, not based upon the ethnic affinities, caste, creed, common linguistics or religions, etc.

On the other hand, the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries has perhaps violated the prescribed norms and general criteria for conducting such a public hearing.

So, the date scheduled for public hearing should be postponed and rescheduled again by giving appropriate time, venue and clear agenda thereof, UCM pointed out in its reminder, adding that the voice of the people should be respected in a democratic country.
