Over the past seven years, Manipur recorded more than 3,000 road accidents, resulting in the loss of 834 lives.
The State's average mortality rate due to road accidents is 29 percent, significantly higher than the National average of 9.3 percent, said Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport/TCI) has said.
He informed this during a one-day State level workshop on Electronic Detailed Accident Report (eDAR), Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025 and Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run Vehicles Accident Scheme.

Speaking at the workshop, Bajpai raised serious concern about the increasing number of road accidents and high mortality in the State.
He said the State must strictly enforce adequate road safety measures and implement schemes that could help save lives such as the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025.As per reports of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India recorded over 4.80 lakh road accidents in 2023, he said.
In Manipur, over the past seven years, more than 3,000 road accidents occurred resulting in the loss of 834 lives, he added.
While the National average mortality rate due to road accidents stands at 9.3%, Manipur's rate is significantly higher at 29%, and this has raised a serious concern for road safety in the State, Bajpai said.
The high mortality rate in Manipur clearly indicates an urgent need for implementing adequate road safety measures and schemes related to motor vehicles and accidents effectively, he added.
He stressed that proper skill and training must be given to the police, paramilitary forces, and personnel of relevant authorities of the Government to ensure timely and effective emergency response.
He stated that every police station should ensure proper implementation and regular updating of the eDAR system.
The eDAR, short for (electronic Detailed Accident Report), is a system for digitizing and analysing road accident data to improve road safety.
Thousands of people are affected by road accidents every year, therefore proper and effective measures must be taken up to ensure road safety and provide timely assistance and support to the victims and their families, Bajpai said.
He further stated that the Director of Transport will review the implementation and progress of the eDAR system in the monthly review meetings.
At the workshop, eDAR State Nodal Officer, DIGP Jogeshchandra Haobijam also underscored the importance of effective implementation of schemes and measures including the eDAR system to enhance road safety and timely response during emergencies.
Proper awareness on the eDAR, Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025 and Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run Vehicle Accidents Scheme must be raised, he added.
It may be noted that the "Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme" provides fixed compensation to victims of accidents with unidentified vehicles: Rs 2 lakh for death and Rs 50,000 for grievous injury.
Kengoo Zuringla, Secretary (Science & Tech)/CEO, State Health Agency Manipur, District level Officers, officials of the Transport Department and National Informatics Centre (NIC) attended the workshop.
The workshop was organised by the State Transport Department in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Manipur State Unit.
