Bpr/Kak/Kjm/Spi/Tbl/Tml, August 13 2023: Befitting tributes were paid to the brave martyrs of Anglo Manipuri War of 1891 who laid down their lives to protect the sovereignty of their Motherland Manipur on the occasion of Patriots' Day today.

Paying tributes to the brave martyrs and remembering their supreme sacrifice were the main highlights of the Patriots' Day which was observed widely across the State today.

Bishnupur
In memory of the great souls who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo Manipuri war of 1891, National People's Party (NPP) Moirang organised Patriots' Day observation at Moirang Philem Leikai.

Speaking at the occasion, Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti Singh called for collective efforts to bring a peaceful resolution to end the ongoing communal conflict between Meiteis and Kukis.

The event was also attended by eminent members of NPP Moirang.

Meanwhile, the District Administration Bishnupur observed the Patriots' Day 2023 today at the Conference Hall, DC Office, Bishnupur.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bishnupur District Lourembam Bikram, IAS told that the State is facing an unprecedented crisis and is affecting the law and order situation, displaced so many people and more than 8000 inmates are taking shelter in different relief camps of the Bishnupur District.

The DC further said that not only going to the battlefield and fighting valiantly but showing a sense of nationalism and sacrifice at one's own level is the need of the hour.

The programme began with wreath laying and floral tribute to the photos of Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit.

Former MLA of Oinam Constituency L Radhakishore Singh; ADC/ADM Bishnupur Hanjabam Bobby Sharma (MCS); Chairperson of Bishnupur Municipal Council (caretaker) L Maniyaima Singh; District Level Officers (DLOs) and staff of the District Administration Bishnupur participated in the observation.

The 132nd Patriots' Day observation was also held at SDO Office Moirang campus for Moirang Sub-division under the aegis of the District Administration Bishnupur and Kumbi Keithel organised by Unified Peace Coordinating Committee (UPCC) Kumbi.

Kakching
District Administration Kakching organised Patriots' Day observation at DC Office complex Kakching today.

DC Kakching Somorjit Salam, ADM Kakching Moirangthem Kapajit; SDO Kakching Okram Shandhyarani; SDO Waikhong Takhellambam Mililkan and SDC Headquarters Puyam Ghambhir along with DLOs of the district paid tributes to the portraits of the martyrs.

Kamjong
As observed in various parts of the state and other parts of the country, District Administration Kamjong also observed Patriots' Day at its Camp Office in 2nd MR Complex, Imphal East.

The observance was led by DC Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter, IAS and was attended by several DLOs, police personnel and other officers and staff of District Administration, Kamjong.

Senapati
The District Administration, Senapati observed the Patriots' Day today at DC Conference Hall, Senapati on the theme "Remembering the fallen Heroes of Anglo Manipur War" .

Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Senapati Mamoni Doley, IAS stated that Patriots' Day is commemorated not only in Manipur but across the country as well honouring the effort and sacrifice made by Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit Singh against the colonial authority.

Remembering the heroes she appealed to the gathering to renew vows of defending the country and protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the Nation.

Speaking on today's programme, Shivanand Surve, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Senapati said that the two heroes- Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit Singh have shown enough skill and courage against the mighty British Empire while trying to liberate their people.

He also said about ten security personnel have lost their lives in the ongoing crisis while trying to maintain peace and save the integrity of the State.

He appreciated the contributions of the Police forces in safeguarding the lives as well as the property of people and also the District Administration staff during this crisis period.

He also appealed to the gathering to sincerely take up the task with capacity and maintain peace among people and community.

Senapati DC led the lighting of candles and floral tributes in paying homage to the images of Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit Singh and followed by SP, Senapati then DLO's.The Programme was attended by ADSP, SDO's, DLO's and its staff.

Observing the Patriots' Day, Civil Society Organization leaders under United Naga Council (UNC) paid rich tribute to General Thangal and Charai Thangal at Thangal General Ecological Park, Mayangkhang.

The event was graced by Ng Lorho, President UNC as the chief guest; Solomon Arow, President Naga People's Organization; Asha Wungnam, President Naga Women's Union and Luikang Luckson, President All Naga Students Association, Manipur as guests of honour and leaders of other prominent CSOs.

Speaking as the chief guest, Ng Lorho, said that "The tales and legends of General Thangal and Charai Thangal who fought against the British Colonial rule still remains our pride in the history of the Nagas," he said adding a proud moment for the Nagas to have killed British officers by the Nagas.

Thoubal
The 132nd Patriots' Day observation was held widely at different places across Thoubal district today with the main event held at Thoubal District Election Counting hall organised by District Administration Thoubal.

DC Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash; Thoubal SP Sachidananda Soibam led in paying tributes to brave souls.

3rd IRB Commanding Officer S Hemanta; ADM Thoubal B Lokeshwor Sharma, high ranking officials and DLOs also took part in today's event.

The Patriot's Day observation was also held at Thoubal Mela Ground community hall organised by Thoubal Apunba Lup (TAL); Okram Community hall organised by Okram Youth Club (OYC); Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex organised by Social & Culture Development Centre ( SOCDEC) Wangjing in association with the inmates of the relief camp opened in the complex; Taibang Maheikol, Thoubal Wangmataba Mathak Leikai organised by Umbrella Foundation, ACA and Taibang Maheikol; Waikhom Mani Girls College; Wangjing Ningthou Masaigol organised by All Wangjing,Lamding, Kairembikhok Club Organisation( AWALAKACO); Sofia English School, Thoubal Wangmataba and Tentha Multiplex Centre, Tentha Khongbal organised by Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup Masa Loisang Tentha.

Tamenglong
District Administration Tamenglong observed Patriots' Day today in memory of the heroes who laid down their lives for the protection of Manipur's independence.

Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong Dr L Angshim Dangshawa, IAS along with the District Level Officers, paid floral tributes and observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect at the Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Tamenglong Headquarters.

During the programme, the DC Tamenglong said, "All of us should not forget the extreme sacrifice made by these brave forefathers.

We should strive to forge ahead for development, keeping their sacrifices in view" .
