Homage paid to Mao martyrs

Imphal, May 06 2013: The 3rd Anniversary of the martyrdom of Loshou and Chakho was observed at the Martyr's Park at Mao Gate today.

The programme which was organised by the Mao Council under the aegis of the United Naga Council was attended by Naga Hoho, the Naga Students' Federation, Naga tribe/ Regional Councils, Naga Frontal Organisations, Naga college and High School students from the Mao-Maram area, Village council of the neighbouring Khuzama village, officials of the Southern Angami Public Organisation and chairmen and secretaries of village councils, village women society and students unions of Mao villages.

The Redeeming Band from Kaibi village and J Jasmine presented rendered special numbers to add to the solemnity of the programme.

Speaking at the occasion, UNC President said the day of martyrdom of Loshou and Chakho is the opportune day to highlight the political positions of the Nagas as a people.

Recalling that on July 1, 2010 NPC declared that the Nagas will sever all political ties with the GoM and demand an alternative arrangement pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue, the UNC president said that the Nagas have since then recommitted themselves to this position consistently at auspicious and solemn platforms.

The odds and challenges in the realization of this position seems insurmountable, he said but added that the Nagas in Manipur will not give up the struggle for an alternative arrangement that is outside the system, which is programmed and engineered to make us exist without identity, political empowerment, rights and opportunities, dignity and honour.

"Our youth and students of today, to whom the future belong will not take it nor will their younger brothers and sisters accept such fate in resignation.

We will achieve our aspiration in the spirit of struggle and sacrifice, which late Loshou and late Chakho epitomize before us today," he said.

The UNC president also said that the movement for an alternative arrangement outside the Government of Manipur has been registered in history with the process of the democratic process of tripartite talk of the GoI, GoM & the Nagas in Manipur under the aegis of the UNC.

This dialogue process will now be entering into the 6th round of talk that will be held soon, he said while informing the Nagas of the need to be prepared for what could happen in the days to come, depending, particularly on the response of the GoI with regard to taking forward the process already put in place to its logical end.
