Imphal, February 06 2026:
For the first time in the State, construction of roads under the FDR (Full Depth Reclamation) system has been introduced.
Under the FDR system, the level of a road surface is maintained at its existing level unlike the conventional method where the level of roads gets elevated every time they are constructed.
Applying the FDR system, AMR-Ircon IV Company has started construction of the road from Sanjenthong to Thumbuthong.
The road is being constructed under the Manipur urban Road, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project (MURDAMIP) .
The road will be 3 metres in width and its thickness will be 300 mm.
AMR engineer Lewis Kshetri said that the one-Km long Sanjenthong-Thumbuthong road, also known as Mahaballi Road, is being constructed under the State PWD's rigid pavement project by applying the FDR system on a trial basis.
Under the FDR process, the existing road surface is dug up and mixed with cement and other construction materials.
This process keeps the level of road unchanged and it is more environment-friendly, Lewis said.
He said that the road being constructed from today will be fit for vehicular movement after seven days.
He said that proper public safety measures have been put in place as a part of constructing the road.
The road has been barricaded so that people do not move over it while the construction process is underway.
He also appealed to the public not to remove the barricades and move over the road until the construction process is complete and sought public cooperation toward expediting the road construction work.
