Stating that Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) has now been listed as a defaulting university by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has urged the Chief Minister, Education Minister and the relevant authorities to take the matter very seriously and protect DMU from being blacklisted.
Speaking to the media at Kakwa today, FESOK vice president Nameirakpam Rikesh Mangang said that DMU is the only State run university in Manipur where college students can pursue a degree in general studies.
DMU was established in 2018 but the university is lagging behind in many areas till today, he said and added that DMU was listed among the defaulting universities by UGC in January 2024 due to the negligence of the State Government and the authorities concerned.
Rikesh Mangang further said that DMU doesn't have any regular employees and the Vice Chancellor had retired on April 27, 2023 .
Further stating that DMU still doesn't have Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Controller of Examination, Deputy Controller of Examination, Finance Officer , faculties and non teaching staff, he said that DMU has not received any grant from UGC so far as the university doesn't have adequate learning resources.
DMU is recognised by UGC.
Stating that DMU can't even run its library and laboratory properly let alone give stipend to research scholars as the university doesn't receive any grants from UGC, Rikesh Mangang continued that DMU may even be blacklisted if the Government doesn't take the matter seriously and do the needful.
