MCPCR takes up case of minor

Taking cognizance of the grievous electric shock suffered by a minor boy at Ukhrul on April 22, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has issued an order with directions to the Manipur State Power Company Ltd (MSPCL) and the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to provide him with specialized treatment and financial relief.
According to the MCPCR, the incident was caused by an exposed high-tension line under Transmission Division-IV, MSPCL, Ukhrul.
The child was reportedly treated at District Hospital, Ukhrul and referred to RIMS, Imphal, but was not admitted on April 30 and May 2 due to alleged non-availability of a bed, and remains in critical condition.
The order issued by Keisam Pradipkumar, Chairperson, MCPCR directed RIMS Hospital to admit the child on priority, provide comprehensive specialized treatment and psychological care and submit a medical status report within 48 hours.
Upon immediate intervention by the MCPCR, including a field visit to the child's place of stay in Imphal and direct coordination with RIMS Hospital, the child has now been successfully admitted to the hospital for necessary treatment in the late evening.
Further, MCPCR has instructed the MSPCL to bear 100% of the medical expenses, including hospitalisation and rehabilitation and provide immediate interim relief to the family.
It has called for the initiation of a time-bound compensation process for negligence and submit an action taken report within 15 days.
Additionally, the Commission has directed the Deputy Commissioner.
Ukhrul to ensure that necessary support, coordination, and assistance is provided to the child's family.
MCPCR has ordered all parties to submit the compliance report within 15 days.
