Families of those killed in the Malom Massacre have urged the Central Government to grant prosecution sanction against Assam Rifles personnel named in the CBI investigation report on the incident of November 2, 2000 .
The 25th anniversary of the Malom Massacre was observed today at the Innocent Memorial Park at Malom, with floral tributes offered to the victims.
At the observance, Gurumayum Sanahal Sharma, whose father Bapu Sharma was also killed in the Malom Massacre, said that 10 persons were killed by Assam Rifles during the incident.
25 years have passed, but justice has not been delivered to the victims and their families to this day, he rued.
Saying that the Centre has still not granted prosecution sanction against the 13 Assam Rifles personnel named in the CBI investigation report, he asked why the Centre is delaying the delivery of justice.
He sought support from the State Government and the people to extend assistance in delivering justice to the '10 victims' .
Malom Tulihal Students' Union (MTSU) general secretary Nandeibam Doren appealed to the Government to press the Centre to grant prosecution sanction against the Assam Rifles personnel involved in the Malom Massacre and also to develop the memorial park.
The 10 persons who were killed were Laishangbam ongbi Sana Devi from Kabowakching, Gurumayum Bapu Sharma from Lairenjam, Oinam Sanayaima from Nambol Naorem, K Bijoy from Leimapokpam, A Raghumani Singh from Nambol Naorem, S Robinson Singh from Malom, Ksh Inaocha from Malom, T Shantikumar from Malom, S Prakash Singh from Malom and S Chandramani Singh of Malom.
