Premchandra honoured with Lalit Kala Akademi Award

Sculptor Premchandra Pukhrambam from Kakching district has been conferred the prestigious Lalit Kala Akademi Award at the 64th National Exhibition of Art 2025 for his wooden sculpture titled "Made Me Change".
The National Exhibition of Art (NEA), organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, India's National Academy of Art, was inaugurated on Tuesday in New Delhi with a grand ceremony that brought together acclaimed artists, cultural figures, and art enthusiasts from across the country.
Union minister for culture and tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attended the event as chief guest.
This year's edition showcases a curated collection of 283 artworks, selected from more than 5,900 submissions through a rigorous two-tier jury process.
The works on display span a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, graphic art, installation, and photography, offering a vivid reflection of India's evolving artistic expressions and cultural diversity.

Premchandra's award-winning sculpture stood out among the entries for its emotive depth and craftsmanship, earning him one of the 20 Lalit Kala Akademi Awards conferred this year.
In a landmark move, the Akademi also announced that all award-winning artworks would be made available for sale for the first time in the history of the exhibition.
The decision aims to support artists directly and encourage the growth of art acquisition culture in the country.
Alongside Premchandra's work, the exhibition also features several other artists from Manipur, including a printmaking piece by Naorem Rajesh, sculpture by Naorem Gautam, painting by Sarangthem Bobby, and printmaking artwork by Yumnam Sapha Apanthoi.
The 64th National Exhibition of Art is open to the public from August 6 to September 15, 2025, daily from 11 am to 7 pm, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with the finest visual artworks from across the country.
