Imphal, April 09 2025:
Assam Rifles on Tuesday handed over six vehicles comprising three JCB back-hoes, one truck and two two-wheelers which had been.
abandoned owing to the conflict that broke out on May, 2023, to their rightful owners during an event held at Sugnu in Kakching district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), in January 2024, a few individuals approached Assam Rifles for ascertaining the whereabouts and status of the abandoned vehicles.
However, the vehicles were found to be unserviceable, and the prevailing security environment did not permit safe movement.
Over the course of nearly one and a half years, Assam Rifles undertook sustained efforts to identify the legitimate owners, restore the vehicles to functional condition and arrange for their safe move.
Officials from the Assam Rifles and Manipur government from Kakching attended the hand-over event held in the presence of about 300 locals and representatives from civil society organisations, reflecting a strong synergy between the security forces, civil administration and the community, the PRO conveyed.
As part of the event, Assam Rifles also commemorated World Health Day by organising a comprehensive health awareness camp under the theme 'Health and Care'.
The camp featured medical specialists in ENT, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and Paediatrics from Thoubal District Hospital, along with health experts from Assam Rifles.
Assam Rifles also coordinated with Medilane for participation of an Ophthalmologist at the camp, the PRO informed, adding that the camp benefitted 480 individuals.
