Bishnupur, August 06 2025:
Protesting the transfer of a Computer Science teacher amid acute shortage of teaching staff, students of Thanga Higher Secondary School staged an overnight demonstration at the school campus starting Tuesday night.
The students also warned of launching class boycott agitation from 10 am Thursday if the transferred teacher is not reinstated.
Oinam Gyaneshori Devi, a Class XII Science student who participated in the protest, stated that the school currently has shortage of 11 teachers across key subjects.
Despite repeated appeals to authorities concerned, no concrete action has been taken, she rued, adding that such apathy compelled students to launch the overnight protest.
She expressed concern that the transfer of the Computer Science teacher, who taught Classes XI and XII, has worsened the situation for the students, many of whom are preparing for crucial board examinations.
"While teacher shortage had already disrupted the academic environment of the school, the removal of the Computer Science teacher, has now placed our academic future at stake," Gyaneshori said, adding that such circumstances severely disadvantage students of government schools when compared to their counterparts in private institutions.
She also pointed out that unless the teacher is brought back by Thursday morning, students will be forced to intensify their protest through a complete class boycott.
It may be noted that Thanga Higher Secondary School is one of the government institutions included under the "School Phagathansi" mission aimed at improving requisite infrastructure of government schools and enrolment rate.
Ihe school currently has 402 students enrolled from Class I to XII.
In-spite of infrastructure development, the school is grappling with shortage of 11 teachers for English, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Political Science, Education, Sociology, Economics and Home Science subjects.
