Awareness programme on child protection laws held

Chandel, April 21 2025: With an aim to raise awareness and spur discussion on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act), a one-day awareness programme and meeting of key stakeholders was held at Chandel DC's conference hall.

Organised by the district administration, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Chandel, under the Department of Social Welfare, the programme had various key stakeholders deliberating on issues centring on child rights and protection laws.

Advocate Thiyam Rajkishore, legal consultant to Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, delivered a detailed presentation, where he discussed the legal frameworks, the challenges involved and the role of different institutions in implementing the PCM Act, 2006 and the POCSO Act, 2012 .
