AR celebrates World Earth Day across state

Assam Rifles marked World Earth Day 2025 with multiple environment-focused events held in various districts on Tuesday in collaboration with local communities with stated objective to raise awareness about environmental conservation, climate change and sustainable living.
According to PRO IGAR (S), at Wanglee village in Kamjong district, a plantation drive was conducted wherein 25 locals and Assam Rifles personnel together planted 400 saplings in public spaces and along the Wanglee-Kasong road.
Participants were also educated on the harmful effects of deforestation and encouraged to take ownership of the planted trees, promoting long-term sustainability.
Simultaneously, at Dr Colvin Academy, Moreh, Tengnoupal district, a poster making and essay writing competition was organised for students of Class VIII to X.Approximately 100 students showcased their creativity and environmental awareness through vibrant artworks and thoughtful essays.
At TM Zoumunnoum village, Tengnoupal district, another tree plantation programme was conducted with the participation of 28 villagers, concluding with an oath-taking ceremony where all attendees pledged to safeguard Mother Earth and continue efforts towards environmental protection.
At Singjamei, here, Assam Rifles organised a combined tree plantation and cleanliness drive with the participation of 70 individuals including 30 personnel from Assam Rifles.
The initiative underscored the importance of collective responsibility in preserving the planet and reflected Assam Rifles' commitment to community development and environmental stewardship, said the PRO.
On the other hand, Assam Rifles also celebrated World Earth Day by organising tree plantation drive at Taobam village in Noney district alongside an awareness lecture and a poster-making competition at Apou Kading School in Tamei, and cleanliness drive at New Nungnang village of Noney district.
These initiatives saw enthusiastic participation from 250 students, teachers and 70 supportive locals from both districts.
Together, the participants planted an impressive total of 300 saplings, contributing to environmental sustainability.
By engaging students, teachers, andlocals, the Assam Rifles succeeded in creating a ripple effect of awareness that extended beyond the day itself, fostering enduring environmental stewardship, according to a report filed by our Noney correspondent.
