Imphal, August 05 2025:
Manipur Technical University (MTU) celebrated its 10th foundation day on Tuesday under the theme "A Decade of Excellence Journey of MTU" at the Government Polytechnic Hall, Takyel, with Governor and MTU
chancellor Ajay Kumar Bhalla highlighting the need for academic innovation and industry partnerships to elevate the university to national standards.
Addressing the event as chief guest, Governor Bhalla expressed satisfaction with MTU's progress since its establishment in 2016 as the state's first government-run technical university.
He said that the university holds the potential to become a centre of excellence in the Northeast, despite the challenges posed by the lack of major industrial activities in Manipur.
"MTU must work towards becoming a national-level institution like the IITs by focusing
on improving infrastructure, building industry partnerships, encouraging research excellence, and promoting academic innovation," the Governor said, calling for the University to develop a clear vision to grow beyond regional recognition.
While praising the contributions of the faculty and administration, the Governor expressed regret that a regular vice-chancellor could not be appointed yet due to pending court cases.
He said that efforts were being made to resolve the matter and urged the education department to prioritise the issue.
He called on students to strive for excellence and remember that their future achievements would not only bring honour to themselves but also to MTU.
Students who become successful individuals bring honour not only to themselves but also to their alma mater, he said.
AK Bhalla commended the University for introducing advanced courses in artificial intelligence, data science, energy systems, and robotics.
He emphasised the need to improve Ph D research output by encouraging the publication of quality papers in international journals.
He also urged MTU's leadership to initiate student exchange programmes with Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and foreign universities.
He further stressed the importance of transforming MTU into a digital campus and improving training and placement cells by fostering direct links with industries.
He praised ongoing initiatives in renewable energy, disaster management, digital systems, and rural technologies, noting that these would provide tangible benefits to the people of the region.
Urging all stakeholders to work collectively, the Governor called for making the University a light of hope not only for Manipur but for the entire Northeast.
Dhanamanjuri University vice-chancellor Prof W Chandbabu, in his speech as the guest of honour, emphasised the remarkable growth MTU has undergone over the past nine years, highlighting advances in infrastructure, student enrolment, faculty strength, and research and development.
He congratulated the university's leadership and community for their earnest and sustained efforts in driving this progress.
MTU registrar Ramananda Nongmeikapam, in his presidential speech, emphasised on the University's ethos, the belief that teaching and learning extend well beyond classroom boundaries and permeate the wider community.
The registrar announced the opening of Ph D programme in various disciplines, which he highlighted as a significant milestone that further cements MTU's trajectory toward advanced scholarship and academic rigour.
