1100 computers installed in 11 IT centres: Secy

A Home Department statement issued by commissioner- cum-secretary (Home) N Ashok Kumar informed that the government of Manipur has operationalized 11 IT centres across various violence-affected districts under the 'IT Centres in Violence-Affected Districts' scheme, approved at a total cost of Rs 11 crore by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) .
The initiative aims to provide seamless internet access and create
computer-based examination infrastructure in violence affected areas to support the rehabilitation and empowerment of displaced and vulnerable populations.
Under the scheme, 1,100 computer nodes have been
installed at IT centres in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Chandel, Bishnupur, Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal and Senapati districts.
An amount of Rs 11 crore was released to the respective deputy commissioners through the director (Relief & Rehabilitation), Manipur, as part of the special package of Rs 209.45 crore sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs for relief and
rehabilitation efforts in violence- affected areas of the state.
These IT centres are already being extensively utilised for online national-level examinations, including NEET PG, NAT CUET PG, Indian Army recruitment exam 2025, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams, civil services and skill-based training programmes for both Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the public.
Of particular note is the conduct of SSC exams for the first time in Churachandpur district in these IT centres, a milestone in bringing national-level opportunities closer to youth in remote and affected areas, said the secretary, adding that IT centres in Imphal West and Imphal East have also hosted numerous government and competitive examinations and trainings, ensuring uninterrupted access to opportunities for aspirants across backgrounds.
With the establishment of the Manipur Staff Selection Commission (MSSC), demand for such computer-based infrastructure has significantly increased, informed the secretary, stating that these centres are playing a critical role in providing access and support to displaced youth and job seekers across the state.
The government remains committed to ensuring inclusive rehabilitation and access to digital resources as part of its broader efforts to restore normalcy, create opportunities, and empower citizens affected by the recent law-and-order situation, Ashok Kumar assured.
